Equifax

ID Watchdog (IDW) monitors for signs of potential fraud across billions of data points. To ensure consumers could reap the latest security benefits, while also aligning IDW with internal Equifax security standards, Equifax prioritized the move to Google Cloud Platform (GCP) in 2020.

We helped IDW transform from physical devices to a fully containerized and cloud native model. Brewer Digital was responsible for containerizing 21 independent Rails applications to the hardened specifications of the Equifax standard. The system runs within an Infrastructure as a Service (IaaS) managed Google Cloud Platform (GCP) on Google Kubernetes Engine (GKE). The platform enables scalability and enhances performance over the previous, on-premises, implementation. In addition to containerizing the entire IDW platform, Brewer Digital was also responsible for several large-scale security improvements, including: improvements to IDW’s encryption, conversion of plain-text searching to blind-index based searching, and re-hashing of secure data used more sophisticated algorithms. In addition to providing security improvements, performance metrics were also taken into account, ensuring the additional security measures were performant.

The IDW platform was also moved into Equifax’s standard tool sets including:

  • Migration from private Github to Equifax GitHub
  • Legacy ticketing system replaced with Equifax ServiceNow
  • Migration to the enterprise SMTP (simple mail transfer protocol), allowing for the  decommissioning of IDW’s legacy system
  • Migration to Equifax’s Web Application Firewall (WAF)
